Day 2: Trash
So this whole no trash thing is way harder than no consumption. I tried to view all trash bins as "off limits", but it's hard when so many things need to be thrown away. I didn't realize just how much stuff I threw away per day until I tried not to. I was pretty good about it and only threw one thing away all day and that was because it was food that came prepackaged. This idea of no trash is impossible in the current world we live in where so many things come in containers or packages that become trash. I was reading the No Impact Man website and it said that the Beavan family got rid of all of their trash making habits and became happier by it. I find this statement to be slightly ridiculous in that how does one measure happiness. No Impact Man continues to state that these lifestyle changes made them happier but theres no way to tell if that is really the case. I really liked this idea originally, but now the website and Colin Beavan are rubbing me the wrong way. Hopefully I won't feel this way tomorrow...no fossil fuel transportation anyone?
